A fragment: sometimes it is language, sometimes image; sometimes it is a human construction. But whatever the ultimate validity of each of these visions, it seems as though anything that is uncompleted or that has been robbed of its completeness by time, both fascinates us and offers us the special vantage point from which the salient characteristics of moments in history are divulge.
