ASSEMBLAGE

Much of my marble sculpture begins with the process of assemblage. Other assemblage work is not destined to be translated into stone. This collection of works was first shown in Florence at SACI in 2005.These works are a means of working spontaneously and directly with the raw materials of found objects. I understand them as exercises and this is what I often do when I find myself in moments when I cannot carve stone. Some of these have taken years to complete and others take minutes and many others are on tables or boxes in my workshop waiting for some missing element or part. One curious and delightful aspect is that they are often so easy to make and often so hard or impossible to resolve or finish.
