APHRODITE AND DORYPHORUS

Much of my artwork contemplates the prototypes and origins of conventions and symbols throughout the history of art. In the 4th C. Praxiteles’ Aphrodite of Knidos was revolutionary because it was the first to present the goddess nude. This might be considered the prototype of all nude artistic representations of females. The 5th C. Doryphorus by Polykleitos was also known as “the Canon,” which became an ideal standard of measurements for representing the male nude.
